Mutation Ideas

Post your ideas for Mutations here!

Left 4 Gnome: All Survivors start with gnomes. Even if they make it to the safe room, the level won't end unless they have their gnome in there. If a player dies, his gnome is no longer required to end the level. Playable in Versus and Campaign.

Good one! Find Your Own Kits: No saferoom kits. Saferoom Kits Only: Only kits in the level are in the saferoom. Campaign Style Health: Health for survivors works like it does i n campaign, carrying over from level to level.

Expert Versus/Scavenge: self explanatory
Riot Response: The Parish with all riot zombies
It's rainin' lead: Infinite ammo versus with no respawn times for infected
Palpitations: Start with 100 temp health and get to the end, campaign only, no health items, health resets between chapters

you get to defib Bill and have a 5th player play with you as Bill (not just a bot). of course, to make it fair, there should also be a fifth special infected... bot or otherwise Wink

I'm not sure if you have seen it but a bunch of the computer nerds opened the game file and have opened all the mutations that Valve currently has for playing.....

There is a gnome mutation Smile

i saw that on kotaku. it doesn't tell you what it is, when we'll have it, or the real name. it just tells you the name that the code calls which is basically an alias for that mutation. still interesting though.

This was posted on the site that I saw... Guess you missed it.... It will ruin the suprise, so if your a little kid like me who cant wait read below...








Using the Mutations Mod, you can choose which Mutation will be played. No more waiting for Valve to hit the switch. It's all up to you now.

Made by EliteGuy, Technopath & ThaiGrocer, this mod brings 15 (13 of which are working) of Valves planned mutations to the L4D2 community, playable at any time and right now! We also included 3 custom ones and there are more to come:


  • Chainsaws (coop) - Everyone starts with a Chainsaw (unlimited fuel) and a pistol (unlimited ammo), there aren't any other kinds of weapons spawning, so it's just what you have at the beginning.
  • Four Swordsmen (coop) - Kinda like Chainsaws, except you start with katanas and no pistols, and there are only S.I., no Commons.
  • Hardcore (coop) -If everyone dies, you have to restart the campaign, so no restarting maps, you have to restart the whole thing!
  • Headshot Only (coop) - Self descriptive, commons only die with headshots.
  • Last Man On Earth (singleplayer) - It's you... against the S.I. (extremely scary)
  • M60s (coop) - Survivors start with only M60s (limited ammo) and a Desert Eagle, once you run out of ammo, you're screwed.
  • Max Specials (survival) - It's survival, with 8 S.I. at any given time!
  • Bleed Out/Temp Health (coop) - Everyone starts with 100 decaying health (pills-like), there are no medkits, only pills and adrenaline.
  • Protect the VIP aka Gnome (coop, versus) -There is a gnome next to you at the beginning, carry it through the campaign, person carrying the gnome can't use weapons and the gnome attracts infected!
  • Realism Versus (versus) - You already know what this is, versus with realism modifications.
  • Linear Scavenge (scavenge) - 2 Cans spawn, get those 2 in and 2 more spawn, proceed...
  • No Health Versus (versus) - No medkits, no pills, no adrenaline.
  • Versus Survival (survival) - Self Descriptive, it's a lot of fun.
  • Madness (coop) - There are TONS of common infected, they are VERY angry and there are no S.I., you have enough trouble as it is.
  • Versus Coop (versus) - It's coop, with a twist, you play as the infected as the bots try to make it through the campaign alive.
  • Realism Scavenge (scavenge) - Self descriptive, scavenge with all the realism twists.

Looking forward to Protect the VIP, Versus Coop(closest to a Special Infected Campaign we'll ever get!), Max Specials and Madness for sure. Chainsaws and Four Horsemen sounds fun too.

Realism Scavenge, Hardcore and Last Man on Earth...oh jeez....just wow. At least RedLeafed and his hardcore crew will have SOMETHING challenging this time round.

There should be a super acheivement for beating all of the campaigns on Hardcore!! I couldnt imagine making it all the way to a finale and dieing...

Fuckin' called it! Except for the lack of health items and reset every chapter I predicted the next mutation... by accident.

One Long Finale: In Campaign only, the survivors start as usual the same way. When they get to the saferoom, the loading screen does not appear, but a little bar will indicate when the next level is ready. They must then go from saferoom to saferoom until they reach the finale. If they die at any point, they must start at the very beginning of the campaign. Everything else however is normal.
