I miss L4D

Post by zachmagic73 on December 9th 2009, 10:09 am

I've been playing L4D2 pretty hardcore now for a while. Lately, however, I've been missing L4D. So, last night, I played a quick Versus Match in No Mercy. God I miss running through that campaign. I also miss the Instant Spawns.

I recently got it back from the person I lent it to and I'm jonesing. Let me know when you get on. I too miss the joys of destroying people that think it's a good idea to jump through the skylight. :D

Left 4 dead 2 grows stale, for some unknown reason, but L4D will never lose that magic touch.

I think I finally found out what makes L4D so much different than L4D2. L4D1 has a slower pacing, which adds the element of suspense and surprise, whereas L4D2 is just wave after wave of zombie, SI, etc, which kind of desensitized me to the hordes of zombies. Granted, they're both good games, but L4D1 has more of the survival/horror game feel, whereas L4D2 is just nonstop action. I do have one thing to add though, which is that Expert on L4D1 is much more fun than on L4D2, as it's actually playable.

I've been going back and playing L4D1 myself. Just got Stomach Upset, Untouchables, and What are you trying to Prove? Damn I'm on a roll!

Well, I've recently been doing something I never wanted to do when the original game came out. Play Campaign with randoms.

Heck, my experiences with this game's online community has been pretty bad. Sworn at for no reason, booted, team killed, saved people's backsides and THEN got sworn at and booted, I basically promised myself to never play with randoms ever again.

However, seeing as my original team have all mysteriously lost Live at the same time, I've braved playing with randoms again, and since there are now less idiots playing the original game, usually the few I do get to play with are pretty fun.

I still have an aversion to Blood Harvest however, mostly because of all the levels that one drove me crazy on Expert.

I noticed that the vast majority of Teamkillers, idiots, random kickers, random swearers, etc... Bad teammates in general, went over to left 4 dead 2, leaving left 4 dead 1 comprised mostly of really dang good teammates.

Now the only problem I have is newbies who don't know the layout of the maps. Today I had to lead a guy(playing Louis) and his guest(playing Zoey) through Blood Harvest by practically holding their hand. Apparently they got lost in the house at the end of the fourth level, Francis dies due to Boomer and Hunter combo whilst I was trying to get the other two to come the right way, and then Louis leaps out the window believing it the exit, only to plummet off a cliff.

Zoey's the only one left and she's in the red, and I'm being pursued by a Hunter, Smoker and Boomer team, so I lock myself in the safe room and wait for her to die. Nothing goes after her for three minutes. I kill the Hunter, the Smoker and Boomer by shooting through the saferoom door, and run back to finish her off myself, when she gets incapped, and a horde arrives to ruin my day.

Somehow I make it back to the saferoom, and the finale starts. We get a Tank straight away, but it's no big deal and we take it down. Louis and Francis rush to the corn field, but Zoey can't find her way up the ladder. I come back to try and help, beforeI get pounced by a Hunter. No big deal, Zoey's right next to me, right?

Wrong. She's bumping into trees, and looking in the opposite direction. She notices me, and runs over and starts to pathetically shoot the Hunter slowly with a pistol. I die pointlessly after having 80 health. We kicked Louis and Zoey after that. I've successfully done Expert, and we were playing Normal.

I wish newbies would play the game offline and learn the map layout or use their brain to work out where to go. The map's are pretty linear after all.

Another guy in No Mercy was playing Francis. Rushing into danger and getting his ass incapped every other minute, making everyone waste health packs on him. We're on the second level, having just made it to the street with the pawn shop, and he gets to the safe room, steals 2 health packs to heal himself and a third to carry, and then alerts the horde by shooting the car then locks himself in the safe room. The rest of the team just had to deal with a Witch who had incapped Louis AND a Tank in the same area, so we're half way down the street by the point he alerts the horde. We somehow battle our way through the horde and get to the pawn shop. Out of sheer frustration I open the safe room door and lob a molotov in after Francis and lock it again.

/rant over.

tl;dr:
There are still idiots ruining the game.

Easy solution: KICK 'EM! unless they're splitscreeners, in that case you should hope that the guest doesn't know what happens when you vote to kick someone. it's happened before.
