TV Series Thread

Post by redleafedwonder on June 29th 2010, 4:41 pm

I was browsing my Netflix over my vacation last week and came across The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy TV series. It was made in Britain circa 1980. It's 6 30 min episodes and was adapted from a radio series (the genesis of both being the book obviously). It was really quite good. The effects were lousy but the writing and delivery was sharp and dry. I you have Netflix or can otherwise access the series I highly recommend checking it out!!

Top Gear on BBC is crazy nuts. 3 British guys talking about cars, test driving, and doing challenges (eg. last night the three of them went to work building an electric car and taking safety and emission tests to have it approved for registration and marketability. Hilarity ensues.)
it's one of the funniest shows i've seen

if you like BBC, check out a series called SPACED. It was only on for 2 seasons. It's got Simon Pegg and Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz) and is directed by Edgar Wright (Directory of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz). It's one of the first things they did (before Shaun of the Dead).

Oh man, I'm really happy to see people across the water get to appreciate the decent shows we've produced over here. Spaced was amazing. I need to get the DVD for it.

Peep Show might be worth a look if you guys ever get the oppurunity, or Charlie Brooker's Screenwipe(or Gameswipe or Newswipe; all three are hilarious) that can be easily located on Youtube.

James May from Top Gear has a new show called James May's Toy Stories. i haven't seen it but it sounds good. he does stuff like build an entire house out of lego blocks etc. It's like the cheap car challenges from Top Gear, but with toys.

Has anyone seen the Mighty Boosh? as far as I know it's a little known show (at least over here) it's odd but very funny

I think I'll watch The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy TV series. After I read the book. It's on my summer reading list after Catch-22 and Einstein's cosmos.

Good lord, the Mighty Boosh. This should be renamed The Awesome British shows thread already.

The Boosh is Good, but seems to get less funny with each passing series. Their last live show was appalling. Maybe I'm just getting older and more cynical.

I'll have to say all episodes aren't good but The Crack Fox, Old Greg, and Nanageddon were pretty good. But I just like the plain randomness of the show
