Regarding the Rubber Band Exploit

I was curious just how one is supposed to do the exploit for Zombie Genocidest using a wired controller and a rubber band without falling prey to Special Infected.

Where is one to go where Special Infected would not be a problem? I cannot think of anywhere to do this, and if I am going to bother purchasing a wired controller, I'd like to know that this will actually work. I'd rather not leave my 360 on for hours on end to find out I was pounced or smoked.
