An Issue Regarding The Expert Glitch

I was playing with my friends the other night and I proposed that we do the Expert glitch. You know, leaving while a host switches the campaign to Expert difficulty and then coming back in.

I was the only one that really wanted to bother. My one friend decided she would do the host duty, but the other friend didn't leave when she did so.

I returned and made it to the helicopter. As soon as the credits were done, I checked to make sure I had at least one Expert campaign under my belt. I am still at 0/5.

Has this been patched, or is it because the other guy remained in the game when the host switched the difficulty? Is timing a factor? Why did this not work?

You have to make sure that the difficulty is anything but expert when you start, and you must do the glitch correctly.
