Left 4 Dead 2 DLC Announced/Discussion

Im not sure if it's come to your attention of the new DLC for Left 4 Dead 2 which they are aiming to release in early spring. The main thing about the DLC it will have the old survivors in it! (Taken from the Steam Forums)

December 14, 2009 – Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Half-Life, Portal, Team Fortress, and Counter-Strike) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced the first game add-on for its co-operative zombie thriller, Left 4 Dead 2 (L4D2), is in development and targeted for release in early 2010.

Dubbed “The Passing,” the first game add-on for L4D2 brings the original Left 4 Dead (L4D1) Survivors down south for a meeting with the L4D2 cast, while delivering new single-player, multiplayer and co-operative gameplay for the PC and Xbox 360.

Targeted for release in early spring, “The Passing” takes place just after the Dead Center campaign of L4D2. Set in a small town in rural Georgia, players assume the role of the L4D2 Survivors as they meet with the L4D1 characters. -What happened to Jimmy Gibbs's car?!

In addition to the new co-operative campaign and associated narrative, “The Passing” will include new arenas for Survival, Versus and Scavenge mode and introduce a new co-operative challenge mode of play. The Passing will also include a new “uncommon common” zombie class, melee weapon, and firearm. -Melee Weapons? What are those?

“The Passing will become the most important campaign in the Left 4 Dead story, as all the Survivors are being called together in one campaign,” said Doug Lombardi, VP of marketing at Valve. “It will also be a huge offering of new gameplay content, with something new for every game mode plus a new uncommon common and weaponry.”

Left 4 Dead 2: The Passing is targeted for release in early spring for the PC and Xbox 360. Pricing will be announced closer to launch.

MY thinking on this is that it's going to be amazing, while we don't know if the old survivors will be playable (Probably Not) it still will be amazing! The new content will certainly keep the experience fresh and make more openings for more add ons to come! What is everyone else's thoughts on this?

I think it's going to be awesome!!! It will be nice to have DLC more extensive than CC in L4D1. Not that CC wasn't cool. It was just a little lacking in length. Length I would have gladly paid for!

Crash course. Bleh. I don't think that should have been paid for at all. This Passing DLC though...I'm excited. Been saving Microsoft points for it.

Aww come on guys. Crash Course wasn't ALL bad. The finale was pretty cool for example.

Still, everyone's excited about the chance to see Bill, Zoey, Francis and Louis again. We'd be even happier if we get to play as them in either this campaign or the new mode.

I just hope The Passing, isn't literally a quick passing. The originals wave hello to the new survivors as they cross paths. Hey, I know it's unlikely, but Valve has quite the twisted sense of humour.

Wasn't 8 vs. 8 denounced?

Apparently there's going to be a new mode with 8 players in it based around the passing, but what it is, is totally unknown.

I just hope all the voice actors are available this time. Playing Bill through Crash Course just felt weird whilst the other three spouted new lines.

I posted this somewhere else, but thought id post here since this is The Passing thread...

My friends and I were playing Swamp Fever last night which we hadn't played in a while and we realized something. You end Dead Center in a helicopter and start Swamp Fever in a train. Then we remembered that The Passing is to take place in between the two. So now we're predicting that The Passing will start off at the crashed helicopter and end with a huge Train being the rescue vehicle.

you are right. i made the mistake of thinking swamp fever was after dead center.

that still begs the question...How'd they get from the dark carn chopper to the train?

Man, I hope that's a hint at future DLC levels. I always thought the campaigns needed a little more linking together.
